The Striking Transformation of Ontimamidipally High School
The school, after the restoration, was inaugurated in 2015 with much pomp and festivity. The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Minister of Education Mr Kadiyam Srihari, Inspired by the tremendous achievement of the community, on its strengths, abilities, and hard work, immediately sanctioned resources to officially reopen it as Government School, further reducing the operational burden on the community.
Further, he announced the sanction of resources to turn into the state’s first-ever English-Medium Public School
Since then, with Bala Vikasa’s facilitation, the school has been making significant progress in ensuring quality education through various innovations and interventions. 400 children have enrolled in the school in the past 4 years, and the waitlist for fresh admissions keeps getting longer. The staff comprising 9 government and 5 additional teachers, and 3 ayas, are actively ensuring their wards learn and succeed well. It greatly helps that the school functions from 8 am to 6 pm - devoting extra 3 hours in tutoring students on writing, reading, and practicing language and arithmetic.
The School Management Committee actively monitors and manages the school. All parents continue to contribute towards the School Development Fund to bridge any gaps.
Following the reopening of the school, it was honored as the second Best School in the district and its attendance has increased multi-folds. The parents are now saving more than 75-80% on school expenses for the same or even better quality of education than the private school. The teachers and students are collectively performing better academically and were also transformed into committed agents of change.
The entire community, along with the students, are now more environment and health-conscious than before. With a heightened awareness of civic sense, they’re utilizing the WASH facilities, keeping school and village surroundings clean, green, colorful, and beautiful.
“We are thankful to Bala Vikasa for motivating us to recognize and showcase the talents of students, and for providing us avenues to update our knowledge and skills,” says Rajesh, Teacher
Communities from Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, and Karimnagar, inspired by the transformed Ontimamidipally school, have sought Bala Vikasa support to replicate the program in the public schools in their villages.
