Rural Women Adopt Kitchen Gardening and Backyard Farming
In an effort to address climate change and promote environmental conservation, we conducted training programs on kitchen gardening and backyard farming to rural poor women.
Post the training and awareness programs contributed Rs 50 each and got fruit plant saplings to grow in their backyard. A total of Rs 7042 saplings were distributed in Karimnagar, Siddipet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Rangreddy and Nagarkurnool districts of Telangana.
Similarly 9358 kitchen garden kits were distributed to the women in the seven districts. The kits consisted of eight varieties of seeds including ladies finger, leafy vegetables, green chilli, beans, tomato, brinjal, bitter gourd and ridge gourd.
The fruits and vegetables will not only help in environmental conversation but will also improve access to chemical-free and nutrient rich food to rural communities.
