1500 Organic Farmers Gather For Monthly Meetings on Organic Farming Practices

As many as 1500 farmers of 88 groups gathered for monthly meetings to discuss various practices of organic farming and their savings and loans required.
During these monthly meetings that will be held from 1st to 15th of every month, farmers share their observations, experiences, and crop management techniques for a better understanding of the process and to find the best sustainable solutions for crop-related problems. After the group meeting, the farmers visit a farm and discuss the various issues related to that farm, especially with regard to pests found and disease control methods, as part of farm schools.
“Crop management techniques discussed during the group meetings have helped me a lot. After the meetings, I begin to realize the importance of crop rotation to maintain soil fertility. During farm schools, I could see the effectiveness of organic farming and it is for me to understand how to prepare some natural fertilizers with simple ingredients,” said G Vijaya, Mysampalli Village
As part of the Organic Farming savings group activities, nearly 550 farmers availed loans from the group for practicing organic farming activities.
We also conducted group leader meetings for 45 group leaders on land management, pest management, farm ponds, cattle urine collection platform, azolla beds, crops diversity, and organic preparations.
“Initially, I was reluctant to attend the group leader meetings but other farmers helped me understand the need to attend these training sessions. Now, I regularly attend the training sessions, follow the methods of preparing organic manure taught during the meetings and also guide other farmers in practicing organic farming methods,” said M Venkat Reddy, Ponnala.
