200 New Farmers Adopt Organic Farming in 200 Acres, The Project Expanded to Three New Villages
Bala Vikasa inspired another 200 small and marginal farmers in adopting organic farming on 200 acres of land. This June, we expanded our Organic Farming to three more villages - Ponnala, Narmetta, and Idukodu.
We conducted various capacity-building workshops and created awareness among the farmers on the need to practice organic farming for a sustainable and profitable livelihood. Though some of the farmers were hesitant to ditch chemical farming that yielded results for years, our field coordinators encouraged them to try organic farming for better results, income and to improve soil fertility.
“It was difficult to convince the farmers to shift to organic farming initially. Most farmers believed that organic farming does not yield desired results and would end up in losses. Then, we showed them other farms where organic farming is being practiced through our farm school’s activities and many of them came along,” said B Vikram, Field Coordinator, Bala Vikasa.
