Making Clean Water Accessible to Tribal Communities

Safe Water For All

The state of Telangana is home to a large number of tribal communities that live in remote areas with limited access to the most basic amenities like decent food or clean drinking water. In order to improve the health of these marginalized, tribal communities Bala Vikasa has been implementing a Safe Water project for tribal communities from the past 2 years.

While promoting and executing sustainable community based water infrastructures, We improved the communities’ understanding of practicing hygienic practices and safe sanitation. We supported 40 tribal communities with 3 different types of water infrastructure. Borewells, pipelines, electric motors and Ground Level Tanks (GLTs) are being provided wherever needed in the districts of Warangal and Khammam. We also ensured that communities participated actively at every stage of the process and also mobilized 10% of the project cost from the beneficiary families in order to instill a sense of ownership and responsibility

Program Impact

Tribal communities were able to access clean and safe drinking water locally which saved time they would need to go and fetch water from canals, rivers and lakes far away from their homes. Consuming clean drinking improved the health and increased the productivity of especially women and girls.
