Increasing Storage Capacities of Water Bodies

Rapid urbanization and expansion of cities coupled with encroachment and silt accumulation lead to reduction of urban water bodies. The run-offs from the streets are drained into water bodies, leading to floods in urban slums.

Bala Vikasa, as part of its Water Conservation activities initiated the restoration of urban water bodies by increasing their storage capacities to improve the groundwater table and access to fresh water in urban areas, particularly for urban slums. The restored water bodies are further beautified as recreational sites for urban dwellers.
