Replenishing groundwater tables

The groundwater levels are drastically depleted due to urbanization, excessive use of natural resources and minimal to no contribution for natural resources conservation. One of the most effective ways to recharge groundwater levels is to preserve rainwater in water storage structures.

As part of its Water Conservation activities, Bala Vikasa has been constructing Check Dams in rural higher altitudes areas to recharge groundwater levels and improve access to water for agricultural purposes

Program Impact

Hundreds of small and marginal farmers who are dependent on rainwater for irrigation benefiting with check dams. Recharged groundwater table and controlled soil erosion is helping farmers increase their productivity and livelihood opportunities.
