Impact

Over the years, significant changes have been observed in women’s attitudes, leadership qualities, and economic well being. Bala Vikasa women are now able to organise and manage their programs such as activities pertaining to savings, celebration of International Women’s Day, tree planting, initiating and managing water and sanitation projects, etc. in their villages. The values imbibed from their training and regular meetings, has had definite impact on the women as more and more women are now motivated to render voluntary services for the improvement of their communities. With the newly acquired leadership skills, dedication and self-belief, they work for village unity and village development, organize shramadanam, health camps, etc. The impact of the capacity building training programs is clearly evident in the empowerment of women who are now the real thinkers and planners, taking responsibility for their own development. Some SHA members have even been elected as village development committee members. This remarkable progress in the lives of the women at their personal, family and community level amply reflects the impact of the program.

At the Personal level

  • More socialization has helped develop collective strength.
  • Functional literacy and knowledge has enabled better understanding of issues concerning their lives
  • Economic development through self employment and micro-enterprise programs has facilitated change in life status from being laborers to owners
  • Imbibing ethical values has helped consider the common interest above individual interest
  • Leadership qualities have enabled them to play active roles in the local governance bodies

At the household level

  • Respect for the women in the family has increased
  • Living standards have Improved
  • Relationships among the women in the family has become more cordial

  • Education level of the children in the family has increased

  • Families have freed themselves from the clutches of private money lenders and high interest loans

At the society level

  • More sensitive to social issues affecting individuals and society
  • Better understanding of the need to participate in community activities for common good
  • Women have gained more respect and recognition from village leaders
  • Mindsets have been changed and widow remarriages are encouraged
