Sharing the Project Cost
The main activity of the project is to excavate the silt, transport the silt and apply it in the fields as per the requirement of the villages. To meet the expenses of these activities Bala Vikas designed the program in such a way that the individual farmers procure the tractors at their cost and Bala Vikasa provides excavation machinery at free of cost. In this way 70% of the project cost in the farm of tractor rent is shared by the beneficiaries and 30% is shared by Bala Vikasa in the form of cost for excavation machinery.
Though the contribution of Bala Vikasa is less compared to that of the farmers, it gives a boost to the farmers to get united and work for their better future. With the gained experience from this project, the committee members would organize the villagers by themselves in the future years and try to implement the project on their own. This is possible since the farmers will be already enjoying the benefits of the project and they have experienced that working together would be much economical. Therefore, they will be motivated to renovate the tanks and get both personal and community benefited.
In every village Bala Vikasa encourages maximum number of farmers to participate in the program so that large quantity of silt is removed to generate desired impact. Generally, Bala Vikasa encourage the farmers to excavate minimum 4,000 tractor loads of silt from each tank and without any maximum limit. Bala Vikasa supported for 24,000 loads excavation in one single tank on a record level where five villages joined to renovate one big tank.
