Training at Bala Vikasa’s People Development training centre, (BV-PDTC) is based on Bala Vikasa’s hands on  experience acquired “in the field”, over a period of more than 20 years of its existence.

The objectives of Community Development Training programs impart by Bala Vikasa PDTC are three fold

  1. Share development knowledge
  2. Impart development skills
  3. Change mindset and attitudes

The perception shared by the trainees reveals that the training imparted by PDTC is relevant and unique.  Our approach is rooted in its optimistic and positive view of human nature and society. BV-PDTC training program pays special focus on community development approaches, methodologies and management tools that have been developed, field tested and proven to be successful.

PDTC Training pays special focus on

Asset Based Community Development Approach (ABCD)

Bala Vikasa believes in the talents and strengths inherent in each individual and community.  Even the most neglected and destitute have the potential to develop themselves. BV’s concept that development practitioners and agents of change should help bring to the fore, the intrinsic positive characteristics of individuals / communities. This would trigger positive action for change unlike the negative approach that focuses on needs and problems.

Appreciative inquiry (AI)
“Appreciative Inquiry” is a methodology based on the assumption that a community which tries to appreciate what is best in itself will find more and more what is good for its own development. Bala Vikasa is adapting this methodology and sharing its knowledge and experience in Appreciative Inquiry with the trainees, providing a novel parameter to development.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
NLP is another motivational and development tool which helps bring out the best in the people and helps build self-esteem. Bala Vikasa recognizes that NLP remains controversial. However, its usefulness for agents of change is based on the fact that the methodology seeks to educate people concerned with the relationship between successful patterns of behavior and the subjective experiences in self-awareness and effective communication. Bala Vikasa continues to explore in its training the pertinence of NLP for community development.

Result based Management
At the management level, this positive approach which is well known internationally is still ignored by most of the agents of change and NGOs working at the grassroots. RBM sensitizes the trainees on management based “outputs”, “outcomes”, and “impact”; in short, management based on success and well-being improvement not only at the quantitative but also at the qualitative level. Bala Vikasa’s training, bringing to the attention of the participants the qualitative level, adds a new dimension to their perception of measuring results.
