Mrs. BalaTheresa Gingras

About 25 staff members of Bala Vikasa along with the founder Mrs. Bala Theresa Gingras, Mr. Andre Bourassa, President of Sopar visited the Saligao Village in Maharashtra on the 4th February 2012.

The villagers gave a rousing welcome to the founder Mrs. Bala Theresa Gingras and thanked her for the visit. In a gathering where the entire village was present they celebrated her 71st Birthday, in a festive spirit. All the speakers appreciated and thanked Balakka for dedicating her life to the cause of development of the poor.

Mr. Shoury explained to the villagers about Bala Vikasa’s history, philosophy and activities. The community leaders requested Bala Vikasa to take up Women Integrated Development, Water Purification Project and Capacity Building programs in their village and sought guidance from Bala Vikasa for their future development.

Saligao got the recognition as a model village at the National level and won several state and national level awards for their developmental activities in the recent past. Former village sarpanch and a well recognized leader of Saligao, Mr. Madhav Rao Patil had attended a training program at Bala Vikasa – PDTC, a month ago and had invited Bala Vikasa to the village. Bala Vikasa has found the need for purified water to be of immediate concern and has already began the work with the participation of people of the village.
