Protecting the environment and regenerating water resources

Drastic climatic changes in the environment are being witnessed in the recent years. The global trend of excessive usage of natural resources and burning of fossil fuels is causing irrevocable harm to the biosphere. Change of seasons, excessive heat, reduced rainfall, soil erosion, depletion of ground water tables, are posing a survival threat to small scale rural farming.

Bala Vikasa is convinced that environment degradation is a grave concern which needs to be addressed without further delay. The change in the environment has had great negative impact on the marginal farmers. The unsteady and unsure monsoons have made farming difficult and unviable.

Bala Vikasa is making concerted efforts to improve water sources and soil fertility by taking all possible measures in the rural neighborhood. Inorder to improve the air quality, reduce increasing temperatures, and ensure more rains, tree planting activity has been vigorously pursued and Bala Vikasa has planted nearly 5,00,000 trees. In an effort to improve the deplorable ground water situation, surface water management is given greater impetus. The tank de-siltation activity and application of silt in the fields, is increasing the soil fertility. Village tanks have been de-silted and 520 lakes in rural Andhra Pradesh have thus far been revived. Farmers, women, youth and children in these rural  regions who are actively involved in protecting the environment and regenerating water resources, are already reaping rich dividends.
